Ear wax, medical name 'cerumen', is actually good for your ears!

It is produced in the ear canal to protect the ear by trapping and removing dust, bacteria and dead skin, preventing it from reaching the tympanic membrane. It is the excess wax, that causes ear related problems. It is the most common ear related problem

 Statistics show that :

  • 1 in 10 children

  • 1 in 20 adults

  • Up to 65% of over the age of 65  have wax as their ear problem.

What are the increased risk factors?

  •  Age ( over 65 and under 5)

  • Narrow ear canals

  • Hairy ear canals

  • Skin conditions

  • Cotton buds use

  • Genetics

A build up of wax can cause:

  • Hearing loss

  • Pain and discomfort

  • Increased risk of ear infection

  • Tinnitus ( buzzing or ringing in the ears)

  • Ear ache

  • Itchiness in or around the ear

These symptoms usually improve once the excess wax has been removed.
